Food for thought: A Reset Button
Hello everyone. We thank you for your love and support for our Church and our family. Please continue to pray for our church, our pastor and his leadership, and our church leaders that we may continue to share the word of God. We are so blessed and grateful for the growth in our church, the ability to share our messages and newsletters with our viewers, and the strengthening of our church family and viewers as a congregation and as individuals. We strive to bring encouragement and connection through this newsletter, which we will continue to post every 1st of the month. So, we hope you will continue to learn and grow in God's word with us.
How time flies, we are in October, wow! Well, kinda haha because as I’m writing this newsletter, it’s still late September, but when you all read this, it will be October 1st, so happy fall to everyone.
Before I get into our topic, I would like to remind everyone about a couple of things. We will be having the October Holiday Craft Show this first Saturday of the month. I hope everyone can join us. Also, if you haven’t already, please join our church group on Wix and follow us on Facebook and YouTube. And, Finally, please join us on Zoom or in person for bible study. We are having great discussions on the book of James.
Now for this month's newsletter:
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die;
time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to rend, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.”
(Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)
The month of September was a month filled with so much division and sadness in our country. It is only human nature to question things and to wish we had a magical reset button so we can press it. We started last month with a video from late August that didn’t get released until September of a young immigrant woman being murdered on a subway station. Then we had 5 school shootings: 3 public schools, a catholic school, and the naval academy (Evergreen, Colorado; Pinetops, North Carolina; North Little Rock, Arkansas; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Annapolis, Maryland). We also saw a young Christian and political leader: Charlie Kirk, assassinated on live stream followed up with hate-filled comments and celebrations without any regard for his mourning family and friends or the bravery he had to speak his mind and debate across this world about his belief in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his political views. The next day followed with a day of remembrance for all the lives lost 24 years ago on 9/11. There was also a man murdered in broad daylight at a hotel and the video was streamed all over social media. We had the backlash and division over the young immigrant woman who was murdered, and the division of immigration laws. Then, to add more fuel to the fire, ICE protests have broken out in major cities to provide more division throughout this country. And lastly, our world lost another bible teacher and man of God in Pastor Voddie Baucham, Jr.
This was just the headlines of the past month’s major news stories in our country. This doesn’t include other devastating events that did not make headlines or world events. What a crazy month.
As much as I would love to have that magical reset button, we live in a fallen world where every decision we make can affect many. We need to be thankful for those who bring light into our lives and ask Our Lord to continue to show His mercy and Grace upon us every chance we get, because we don’t know when we will take our last breath.
We as believers need to be the example to not let this world divide us and show, with our Savior and creator leading the way, that the Holy Spirit can fill us with peace and love for one another.
I know it’s hard. I struggle with this on a minute-by-minute basis, and I know I need to turn to our Lord when thoughts of envy, hate, pride, and all my bad intentions enter my thoughts. I just need to take a step back, pray to the one who saved me, and remember this verse:
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.”
(Genesis 1:27-28)
When I read this verse, it reminds of the heavy responsibilities we have for not only God’s creation, but for each other. God called us and commanded us to:
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD; and you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. And you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
(Deuteronomy 6:4-5,7)
“Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”
(Matthew 22:37-39)
It is hard to keep focus when this past month has felt like our country is falling apart and with so much hate and division. A wise man once said:
“We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.”
(Martin Luther King Jr.)
We don’t all share the same ideals, beliefs, or even political views, but we do all have one thing in common: we were all created by the one and only true God.
“Trust the past to the mercy of God, the present to His love, and the future to His providence.”
(Saint Augustine)
“For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.”
(Galatians 3:26-29)
More than ever, we need to slow our minds, open our hearts, and let the Holy Spirit guide the way.
We all have to do our small part in this big world to help heal what is broken around us. Pray for one another, love one another, and always turn to God first.

Verse of the Week:
"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven"
(Matthew 5:14-16)
