Food for thought: Open Your Bible More This Year
Hello everyone. We thank you for your love and support for our Church and our family. Please continue to pray for our church, our pastor and his leadership, and our church leaders that we may continue to share the word of God. We are so blessed and grateful for the growth in our church, the ability to share our messages and newsletters with our viewers, and the strengthening of our church family and viewers as a congregation and as individuals. We strive to bring encouragement and connection through this newsletter, which we will continue to post every 1st of the month. So, we hope you will continue to learn and grow in God's word with us.
" Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and get gain”; whereas you do not know about tomorrow. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and we shall do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. Whoever knows what is right to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin."
(James 4:12-17)
"Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day."
(Matthew 6:34)
I’m writing this on the eve of a new year. A holiday where so many want to start off with the new year being the start of a whole new you. Changes and plans for the future and hopes and dreams set in motion.
Those changes and plans should first and always start off with our God, our Savior, His Holy Spirit leading the way.
I chose a small sample from a song that will be featured later in this newsletter to give just a small example of how we look from the outside looking in.
“Hey, l've been fine
I've been struggling to find some peace of mind
It's the problem of our nation and in our generation
We're too busy and can't find the time
Are we busy, or is it all a lie?
We got dust on our Bibles, brand-new iPhones
No wonder why we feel this way
We walk with our eyes closed, blind leading blind folks
And I'm done with those idols and dusty Bibles”
-Dusty Bibles by Josiah Queen
For me personally, this song is deeply relatable.
I struggle every day to find peace in a mind drifting in and out of the worries of today, tomorrow, the future, and for some odd reason, even the past.
I make the same kind of excuses. The excuse, “I’m too busy”, “I have to work all the time”, “I have no time off”, “I need a break for myself”, but in reality, it’s just me keeping busy to avoid many of the things in my life that I know need fixing.
The part of this song that gets me the most is:
“We got dust on our Bibles, brand-new iPhones
No wonder why we feel this way”
I know for me, I do spend too much time on my phone scrolling through videos, social media, commenting on social media posts, and playing games. And yet, the whole time, I neglect to spend more time on my spiritual life by taking time to read God’s word. And yes, when I do wonder why I feel the way I do, it’s because I’m consuming more of the world and less of God’s word.
With the new year coming up, I wondered what would be on my new year resolution list. But once I heard this song, I knew. If I want to stop worrying about the past, the present, and the future, I need to dig into God’s word, feed my soul, and all my anxious questions will be answered.
Make time for God. Thank Him for everything. He sent His Son to save us from not only our own sins, but from ourselves. Let His Holy Spirit guide you. Let Him lead the way every day and all our plans, our wants, and our needs will be blessed. Our Savior will steer us to what we truly need on this journey of life we are all on.
May you all have a happy new year and may you all let Our Lord and Savior lead the way.
"Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
(John 3:3)

Weekly Devotional: A Task Unfinished
Begg, Alistair. Truth for Life- Daily Devotions

Verse(s) of the Week:
"Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. I have sworn and I will confirm it, That I will keep Your righteous judgments. I am exceedingly afflicted; Revive me, Lord, according to Your word. Be pleased to accept the voluntary offerings of my mouth, Lord, And teach me Your judgments. My life is continually in my hand, Yet I do not forget Your Law. The wicked have set a trap for me, Yet I have not wandered from Your precepts. I have inherited Your testimonies forever, For they are the joy of my heart. I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes Forever, even to the end."
(Psalm 119:105-112)
