About Us

In 1874 the first religious group in Berthoud was formed: The United Brethren Congregation. This organization consisted of members gathering together in their homes and other meeting places for their religious practices. In 1904, the United Brethren Congregation was able to purchase land to build the Berthoud Church. However, the church did not become part of the Foursquare Church organization until 1956 after it was purchased by the English Foursquare church from the United Brethren Congregation.

Once the church became the Berthoud Foursquare Church, the first pastor of the church led the English Foursquare Congregation for four years. After those four years, there were many pastors in and out until the English congregation closed the church in 1962. This was not the end. In 1965, Carrie McCormick, the woman whose family helped to fund and build the church, again, generously funded the reopening of the Berthoud Foursquare Church for the Spanish congregation.

After this switch from the English congregation to the Spanish congregation, The Berthoud Foursquare Church was pastored by ten or more different pastors until 1989 when Pastor Steve Salazar took over after His Father. Pastor Steve's father, Pedro, was a Pastor and member of the congregation for seven years on and off between Pastors: Ruben, Mary, Ephraim, and five others who did not lead the congregation longer than a year. Pastor Steve was our Pastor for 34 years and took care of the church and his congregation diligently until he was called home to our Lord on December 28th, 2023.

Today the Berthoud Foursquare Church is a bible-based church led by Pastor Steve Salazar Jr., who has been ordained as of 2024. Though the Congregation has gotten smaller over the years, this historical landmark still stands and remains active to attest to the unchanging ministry of Jesus Christ and declare the four scriptural roles of Jesus as Savior, Baptizer With the Holy Spirit, Healer, and Soon-Coming King worldwide.

In Honor of Pastor Steve Salazar Sr.

December 28th, 2023 our church and our family suffered a great loss. God called home our Senior Pastor Esteban, or Steve as he was known to many. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, mentor, and friend to many. He was a great man of faith, always preaching the word that God put in his heart. He lived every day to the fullest, sharing God’s word with everyone he met and touching the hearts of many. He always talked about how tomorrow is not promised and he was prepared for the day when the Lord would call him home. We will never understand why it had to happen when it did, but we know that God has a plan for everything. He is greatly missed by all!

One of his favorite verses says…

“But Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

(Matthew 6:33)
